The Body Of “The Black Dahlia” A.K.A. Elizabeth Short Was Discovered On January 15, 1947 The body of Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia. Short’s body was discovered in half on January 15, 1947 in Leimert Park, Los Angeles. She also was given a Glasgow smile (cut from the corners of her mouth to her ears) and her body was drained entirely of blood. Her murder remains unsolved  It was on January 15, 1947 that one of the country’s most famous unsolved murder cases began with the discovery of the mutilated corpse of waitress Elizabeth Short in Leimert Park, Los Angeles, California.  The investigation into Short’s murder was very highly publicized and it earned the nickname “The Black Dahlia” which is said to be derived from a film noir murder mystery.
