What Happened to the Lost Colony of Roanoke? In 1587, a group that consisted of 90 men, 11 women, and 11 children settled on Roanoke island and completely vanished. No one knows where they went or what happened to them, but to this day, no one could crack the code of what happened to this small colony. The only clues that people have discovered were the words " CROATOAN" and "CRO" carved into the wood in their Fort.
