A skydiver's parachute failed, this photo was taken just before impact. Stephen Liard, a freelance photographer, won a National Newspaper Award in 1976 for his pictures of Mary Ross, 46, who was killed in October 1975 after the lines on her parachute became entangled during a 2,000-foot fall. By the time she freed herself, it was too late for her reserve chute to open. It is the same person, on the left they've got line twists and probably a malfunction. On the right they'd probably cutaway their main but didn't have time to deploy their reserve.... The photographer that took these photos of skydiver Mary Ross.
