Did you know that the shortest war in history lasted just 38 minutes?  That's right, the Anglo-Zanzibar War of 1896 is officially recognized as the shortest war ever recorded, with the entire conflict lasting less than an hour! The war erupted when a new Sultan of Zanzibar, Khalid bin Barghash, refused to step down from his position as leader, despite the British Empire's demand that he do so. In response, the British Navy launched an attack on the Sultan's palace, which led to a brief but intense battle. After just 38 minutes, the Sultan's forces surrendered, and the war was over. While the Anglo-Zanzibar War was undoubtedly a unique and unusual event, it's also a reminder of how quickly conflicts can escalate and how important it is to strive for peaceful resolutions.
