Scaphism was an ancient form of torture and execution where you’d cover some with honey, and then stick them in a hollowed log and then allow them to fester and then be eaten alive by insects over time This torture method originated in the Persian Empire, around the 5th century B.C. It was devised to inflict as much pain and discomfort as possible for as long as the victim remained alive, and it was reserved only for people guilty of the worst crimes (for instance, murder and treason). Scaphism  (from  Greek  σκάϕη, meaning "boat"), also known as  the boats , is an alleged ancient Persian method of  execution . It entailed trapping the victim between two boats, feeding and covering them with milk and honey, and allowing them to fester and be devoured by insects and other  vermin  over time. The first mention of scaphism is Plutarch's description of the execution of  Mithridates : [The king] decreed that Mithridates should be put to death in boats; which execution is after
