In 1931, a baby and a chimp were raised together as part of a bizarre experiment - the end was tragic for both Gua, a female chimpanzee, was raised alongside a human baby as part of a bizarre experiment by scientists Luella and Winthrop Kellogg. The baby was their own son, Donald. The chimpanzee died of pneumonia and the son reportedly killed himself at the age of 43. In 1930, a couple of scientists decided to adopt a baby simio to grow next to their son, in order to find out if the primate adopted human behaviour. After 9 months they suspended the experiment, as their son was starting to act like a monkey. The experiment was the idea of Winthrop Niles Kellogg and his wife Luella, who adopted a Chimpancé-name Gua baby and proposed to raise her along with Donald as if they were „brother and sister.
