Before coronavirus, what other pandemics that were as deadly as coronavirus, spread through the world as the coronavirus has?
1. Little detail on Small Pox
It was one of the worst epidemic from medieval history to modern history
“There hasn’t been a kill off in human history to match what happened in the Americas—90 to 95 percent of the indigenous population wiped out over a century,” says Mockaitis. “Mexico goes from 11 million people pre-conquest to one million.”
Edward Jenner introduced the vaccine for smallpox and in 1980 W.H.O had announced smallpox completely eradicated from earth.
Thanks to Srinivas Charlu (Srinivas Charlu) for pointing out.
2. AIDS - 36.4 Million people are affected by AIDS globally. There were more then 770,000 death in 2018. HIV infection were causing around 3.3 million lives per year which fall down to 2.6 million per year in 2005. AIDS have caused around 36 Million death so far.
3. 1918 - 1919 influenza (Flu) - first case found in US military personnel and later 1/3 of world population was affected by it. It claimed more than 50 millions lives 675000 in US.
Mortality rate was high for children below 10 years, 20 - 40 years and above 60 years people. Even though 20–40 years people have good immune but couldn't resist the deadly flu.
This flu was called Spanish flu but it wasn't originated from Spain.
Source - 1918 Pandemic (H1N1 virus)
4. Asian flu - 1957 - 1958 - claimed more then 1 million lives. This flu originated from China.
5. SARS - 2002.- 2003 - family of covid-19 that had 9% of mortality then covid-19 virus but it spread lesser compare to corona covid-19. (Not deadly enough then corona still added) . It was originated from China. But one of the another covid member MERS originated from. Saudi Arabia (these were having higher mortality rate but it spread at lesser speed then corona. I think corona has mortality of 10% as well if we take example of Iran, Italy, Spain
6. 2009–2010 - swine flu - Originated in Mexico, 1.4 billion people were affected and claimed half million life.
7. Ebola was deadly virus as well but thanks to Bill Gates and Melinda Gates for sending Medical expert to Africa and destroying Ebola from root.
8. Polio. Back in the 50s. But it wasn’t “just like.” Rather than older people, it struck mostly kids. Hard. I was there before the vaccine was available; I remember.
Several such flu cases were their in medieval history and modern history.
It is a common psychology of an individual that we expect corona virus to hardly sustain for half a year and want to know the massive impact it can create within short period so I took example from Influenza instead of small pox because we don’t want corona to be like small pox to last for centuries.
Thanks and stay safe
