Telepreacher jailed for 8,600 years for Turkey’s biggest sex crime scandal

Turkish preacher "Adnan Oktar" was sentenced to more than 8,600 years in prison after being convicted of a series of crimes.

An Istanbul court today sentenced televangelist “guru”, leader of a religious sect, Adnan Oktar, to more than 8,600 years imprisonment, who had been convicted of a number of crimes including sexual assaults.

60-year-old Oktar, better known by the pseudonym Haroun Yahya, rose to fame by presenting a show on an online channel in which he appeared surrounded by young, half-naked girls, whom he called “kittens”.

He was arrested July 2018was sentenced to 8,658 years in prison, on charges including sexual assault, identity theft and deprivation of liberty, according to Turkey’s official Anadolu news agency.

Horrific accounts of rapes, gang-rapes, beatings, vows of silence, buying and selling of women and babies, cameras in TV studio rooms, rape and sexual torture for sanity.

The same sentence was imposed on ten co-defendants, members of his organization.

Oktar was originally sentenced in January 2021 to 1,075 years in prison, before the verdict was overturned by an appeals court.

Abroad, Oktar became famous after publishing an “Atlas of Creation” in which he rejected evolutionary theories.
