A skydiver's parachute failed, this photo was taken just before impact.

Stephen Liard, a freelance photographer, won a National Newspaper Award in 1976 for his pictures of Mary Ross, 46, who was killed in October 1975 after the lines on her parachute became entangled during a 2,000-foot fall. By the time she freed herself, it was too late for her reserve chute to open.

It is the same person, on the left they've got line twists and probably a malfunction. On the right they'd probably cutaway their main but didn't have time to deploy their reserve....

The photographer that took these photos of skydiver Mary Ross. The lady was a 46 year old woman who died right in front of him in September of 1975. The location was Cameron Ontario, just north of Peterborough Ont. The story behind this is that one week prior to her fatal jump, she'd completed a "sunset jump" but then packed her chute again under the headlights of her car. A week later, that chute, packed in that manner killed her. Very sad as she was a mother of two children.
