Well, teacher/student relationship is not balanced. The power in the relationship rests in the teacher'shands. It is unethical (and depending on student age, may be illegal) for ateacher to exploit their position by becoming entangled in a “dating” relationship.

Also, In many countries, it is illegal for a teacher to date or have any sexual contact with a student, no matter their age.

In the United States it is considered taboo for a teacher to date their students even after the student graduates. This is for number of reasons, but mostly because of expectations carried over from time in school. Teachers are expected to not think about their students sexually, and for good reason.

In UK, the law was changed to make it illegal for teachers to engage in sexual activity with pupils at their school aged under 18.

What happens if a teacher has a relationship with a student?

A participant in one of these relationships could face charges of violating school policy, abuse of power, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, or, if one of the participants is below the age of consent, even statutory rape.Teachers engaging in such relationships could lose their job or licensure credentials.

What punishment does the Nigerian law prescribe for Teachers/lecturers found guilty of engaging in sexual relationship with students ?

It proposed a five-year jail term for Teachers/Lecturers who engage in sexual relationship with students

What to do as a student if a teacher is asking you for a relationship?

If you are in high school, then you should tell them you'll think about it and go straight to the principal's office and tell them directly that your teacher just asked you out and you want to know what to do about it. Or, better yet, text your mom and dad and tell them what just happened.
