Mr Ibori gets the latest sentence for stealing at least $250 million of public funds within the period he served as governor of the wealthy Delta state.
Ibori was sentenced to 13 years in prison for money laundering. But However James Ibori can become Nigeria’s president. The antecedent is there as a backing to such possibility.
Gen Olusegun Obasanjo was convicted of coup plotting in 1995. He was jailed, and later released by General Abdulsami Abubakar, and granted full presidential pardon.
Not surprisingly, in May of 1999, Obasanjo succeeded Abdulsalami Abubakar as the democratically elected president of Nigeria!
James Ibori is still very relevant in the politics of Nigeria, especially in the south south region. So keep your fingers crossed. Everything is possible in the politics of Nigeria, so much so, that nothing ever surprises me anymore!
