A builder has been accused of beating and strangling a 27-year-old hairstylist to death and then dumping her body in rubbish sacks in her apartment in Russia.
Almaz Ibraev, 41, was arrested by police after they discovered the body of Yuliana, 27, at her new apartment in St Petersburg on November 23.Her body was found in a rubble sack along with construction debris by police after they responded to a missing persons report.
While the motive is still unknown, some reports have suggested that Ibraev was afraid he 'would not get paid for his shoddy work'.Yuliana had travelled to the apartment on the day she died to check on the progress of the refurbishment. She was seen for the last time getting into the lift on the apartment block's CCTV camera. Her accused killer can also be seen exiting the lift in the video footage.Ibraev is said to have clubbed the victim senseless before throttling her to death.
When police found her remains wrapped in plastic, there were signs of bruising and what appeared to be a wire mark on her neck, according to local reports. When she was discovered two days after her disappearance police immediately suspected the 41-year-old builder, who had been working on the flat and had fled after Yuliana vanished.Police put Ibraev on a wanted list and began an extensive search of the city, eventually tracking him down outside a hostel on November 27.
Authorities in St Petersburg are now investigating a possible motive for the attack. One media source claimed that Yuliana was unhappy with Ibraev's work and that the builder suspected he would not be paid, but this theory has not been confirmed by officials. The victim's older sister paid tribute to Yuliana on social media, writing: 'Sister, you are forever in my heart.'
