Che Guevara is executed




On this day in history… On October 9, 1967, socialist revolutionary and guerilla leader Che Guevara, age 39, is killed by the Bolivian army.

The U.S.-military-backed Bolivian forces captured Guevara on October 8 while battling his band of guerillas in Bolivia and executed him the following day. His hands were cut off as proof of death and his body was buried in an unmarked grave. In 1997, Guevara’s remains were found and sent back to Cuba, where they were reburied in a ceremony attended by President Fidel Castro and thousands of Cubans.

Following his death, Guevara achieved hero status among people around the world as a symbol of anti-imperialism and revolution. A 1960 photo taken by Alberto Korda of Guevara in a beret became iconic and has since appeared on countless posters and T-shirts. However, not everyone considers Guevara a hero: He is accused, among other things, of ordering the deaths of hundreds of people in Cuban prisons during the revolution.

The film of the era was too "slow" to take photos of actual operations, so he staged photos using cadavers. In this photo, a clamp holds the eye open to show where a scalpel should be positioned to remove a cataract. Today's eye surgeons can laser a hole in a patient's iris (the colored portion of the eye) in a matter of seconds. But in the late 1800s, doctors used a sharp tool to perform "iridectomy," as shown in this 1870 photograph. NSCDC arraigns 61-year-old man for allegedly raping 15-year-old girl

The Oyo State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday, October 22, charged a 61-year-old man, Alfa Olayiwola Rasak, to court for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl. A statement released by the NSCDC Commandant, Adaralewa Michael, stated that Rasak was charged to court for Rape contrary to Section 34(1) and punishable under section 34(2) of the Child Rights Law of Oyo State by the Anti-Human trafficking and child protection unit of the command. He revealed that the suspect of No S6/387 Oke Oluokun Kudeti Road, Ibadan was arrested for defiling the minor and had continuously raped her for over 4 years.  Chief Magistrate S. H. Adebisi of family court 1 Iyaganku, Ibadan after hearing the count charges against the suspect remanded him till November 8,2021.
