Does love distract you from your goal?
Distraction is the process of diverting the attention of an individual or group from a desired area of focus and thereby blocking or diminishing the reception of desired information.
You must have heard this from many people that Love is a distraction and that your partner will distract you from your personal goals.
What do you think? Love which serves as strength, can it destroy? It has always been a topic discussed nowadays. Typical romantic relationships require a lot of undivided attention to be successful. Relationships are hard. It's common to hear love stories that required one or both partners to sacrifice their goals in the name of love, only to resent their partner later on in life.
Love is a distraction. But is there actually any basis for this? Or is it something that people say to make sure that their kids grow up to be doctors? Believe it or not, it's distract. 99% of Nigerian women are witches in assignment. Many lives have been ruined by them and also many destinies have been truncated by them too. And they're still - unto the next one, with their fish smelling black hole...
Love is beautiful, love is strong and love is good..... But sometimes we just don't need 'distractions'. As a young man trying to build himself, a girlfriend should be the least of your worries. Truth be told, you can't meet up with what the everyday Nigerian girlfiend wants these days.
The little hard earn money that needed to be save and invest for goal achievement, is wasted as one trying to meet up with her demands. forsaking those pretty things that required money that needed to be done. The money that should have been used to take care of important things are now misused.
The older research would indicate that relationships were problematic in terms of focus and achievement – particularly if the relationship goes down hill. It would seem the general consensus was that relationships was a terrible idea. Long distance relationships with a partner are seen as a romantic death sentence with most couples breaking up after years.
When love is fresh and happening, or you're in pursuit of your better half, this is the period when distractions are at a maximum. Distractions in this phase are of the nature of your mind veering towards thoughts related to your partner or the girl you're chasing. The intensity of distraction is maximum at this point. I term this early distraction as unavoidable.
Now you have the girl for a while. Relationship has hit a stable phase. The initial excitement is over. Now, distraction changes its form. It shifts towards time management where you try to balance your work/studies with relationship matters. People who are good at prioritizing and time management can escape this late phase distraction. This explains the No part.
Unfortunately a minority of guys are good at managing time, balancing out their relationship with career. So for majority of them a relationship acts as a distraction from their goals. Another factor which people generally overlook is the choice of a partner. If her goals align with yours, distractions would be minimal. However two people with different mindsets and goals are highly likely to distract each other from their respective ambitions.
Last but not the least, some relationship issues like infidelity require careful handling. So if such incidents occur its implied that both partners would lose focus from their targets.
