Murder of Scott Amedure
In March 1995, the producers of the popular "Jenny Jones Show" thought they had come up with a surefire recipe for must-watch TV. Guests would come on the program and reveal their same-sex crushes on their unsuspecting friends. But the producers weren't ready for what would happen after Scott Amedure confessed his feelings to his straight friend Jonathan Schmitz. During the taping, Amedure shared sexual fantasies about Schmitz with the studio audience while Schmitz waited backstage, unable to hear. And when Schmitz came out and discovered that his secret admirer was his male friend, he laughed uncomfortably but gave Amedure a hug and seemed to laugh the whole thing off.
However, Schmitz was far more disturbed by this surprise revelation than he let on. Just three days later, he headed over to Amedure's home to confront him — armed with a shotgun. Schmitz demanded to know if Amedure was the one who had left him an unsigned love note, and when Amedure confirmed that he had, Schmitz retrieved the shotgun from his car and shot Amedure twice in the chest, killing him on the spot. When Schmitz then called 911 to report the murder himself, he chillingly told the operator that he had killed Amedure "because he played a very f**king bad thing on me. He took me on Jenny Jones."

Scott Bernard Amedure (January 26, 1963 – March 9, 1995) was an American murder victim. During a taping of The Jenny Jones Show, a television talk show, Amedure revealed that he was attracted to an acquaintance, Jonathan Schmitz (born July 18, 1970).
Three days later, Schmitz confronted Amedure and shot him twice in the chest. He confessed to the killing and was found guilty of second-degree murder. The Amedure family successfully sued The Jenny Jones Show for wrongful death, but the judgment was subsequently overturned by the Michigan Court of Appeals. The episode was never broadcast, although segments of it were played for television news programs.
According to footage of the murder trial, it was stated later by a friend of Amedure's that Amedure and Schmitz went out drinking together the night after the taping and an alleged sexual encounter occurred.
According to the testimony at the murder trial, three days after the taping, Amedure left a "suggestive" note at Schmitz's house.[6] After finding the note, Schmitz withdrew money from a bank, purchased a shotgun, and then went to Amedure's mobile home. He then asked Amedure if he was the one that left the note.
According to court documents, Amedure responded with a smile. Schmitz then returned to his car, got his gun, and returned to Amedure's trailer. He then shot Amedure twice in the chest, killing him. After killing Amedure, Schmitz left the residence, telephoned 9-1-1, and confessed to the killing.
