10 Reasons Why Men Should Quit Watching Po*n

Woman learns she's living in serial killer's former torture chamber

Woman learns she's living in serial killer's former torture chamber

In 2014, a Missouri woman named Catrina McGhaw was watching a true crime documentary about a murderer who made snuff films while torturing and murdering a series of women in his basement — when she suddenly realized that the basement on screen was her own and that she'd just moved into a house previously occupied by a serial killer. Even worse, some of his items were still in the home, including a dining room table that showed up in some of the crime scene photos.

Horrified, McGhaw immediately tried to move out. But her landlord — who turned out to be the serial killer's mother — forbade her from leaving until her lease was up. Though McGhaw was eventually able to relocate thanks to help from the St. Louis Housing Authority, she said that things kept getting "weirder" in the house during her final days there. At one point, her 2-year-old relative was playing near a pole where the serial killer had tied his victims up and had a disturbing reaction: "She looked over and she was... scared... like she saw somebody scared and crying and nobody was there, nobody there."

See the photos and dive into more creepy stories that'll make you want to sleep with the lights on — by clicking the link in our bio.

A woman in suburban St. Louis recently got fucked over by her landlady. Shortly after moving in, she found out about all the torture and murder that happened in her basement. The story got even worse when Missouri's tenant laws came into play.

A woman in suburban St. Louis recently got fucked over by her landlady. Shortly after moving into the house at 1001 Ford Dr. in Ferguson, Missouri, she watched a true-crime documentary. There on her TV was her new home, formerly the home of the notorious (but never technically convicted, because he committed suicide) serial killer Maury Travis. The murders had all happened right underneath the spot where she was sitting. Surprisingly, the story got even more fucked up when Missouri's tenant laws came into play.

Travis tortured and strangled between 12 and 20 prostitutes in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He committed all of the murders, and the torture sessions that preceded them, in the basement of what was at the time his house. The house's new resident, Catrina McGhaw, who learned all of this information in one big dose, told the news that she found this development to be "not OK."

Travis was especially famous in Missouri and is noteworthy to this day for being one of the first killers ever caught almost entirely through internet sleuthing. Apparently enthralled by media coverage of his crimes, he mailed a printout of an internet map to a journalist with an "X" drawn on it where a missing prostitute's skeleton could be found. This being 2002, he had left himself completely open to an IP trace. The TOR anonymity network would be released a few months later and could have saved Travis a lot of trouble.

Since McGhaw got the news after a few months of living in the murder house, she had to go back and retroactively re-process every memory she had created there. Every breakfast was breakfast in a murder house. Watching a movie on the basement TV meant watching a movie in a former torture chamber.

She says at one point a two-year-old relative was down in the former torture chamber playing games, and as she neared the pole that, as McGhaw would later learn, Travis had used to tie up his victims, the little girl started crying. McGhaw believed some unseen menace had creeped her out. You might roll your eyes at this part because it's turning into a ghost story, but give her the benefit of the doubt. She was very understandably scared, and wanted to move.

McGhaw called her landlady to complain and announce her intention to move out. The landlady turned out to be none other than Maury Travis's mother! Mrs. Travis didn't turn homicidal or anything, but she did pull an almost admirably alpha move on McGhaw: She informed her she was under a lease and had to stay.

Murder Mom was completely right, legally speaking. Much in the same way that there's no rule that says a dog can't play basketball, there's nothing in Missouri tenant law that says you have to inform a tenant that they're moving into a murder house. Chris Nagus of ABC News in St. Louis argues that you still should. I argue that all parties involved are showing a lack of imagination.

You see, a similar thing happened in New Orleans late last year, but the murder was still unsolved, and the owner of the house was the husband of the victim and still appeared to be a suspect. But the major difference was that the guy renting the place out was trying to put it on Airbnb, and rent it out to vacationers, instead of leasing it. He would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for some meddling bloggers, who posted about it and eventually got the site to take down the ad.

But we all have friends and loved ones who enjoy trivializing murder victims and reading all the horrifying details. They're called "true-crime fans," and they have their own section in every bookstore. People like this (I'm including myself) will go out of their way to stay in a murder house.

Take as an example the Villisca Murder House in Villisca, Iowa, where the grisly ax murder of an entire family and two guests took place. It's also where, according to the website, you're welcome to stay overnight for the low low price of "$428 for 1 to 6 people, $74.90 each additional person. $200 non refundable deposit to be paid when you book a date, this deposit goes towards full amount due." For reference, $428 a night will also get you a room in the Ritz Carlton and a decent bottle of champagne.

Granted, the Villisca murders happened 100 years ago, but what difference does it make? If the murders happened yesterday, I suppose it would be too fresh. The murders happened 100 years ago, though, and that's a fun vacation spot people will pay a premium for! Somewhere in the middle there's a line.

The Missouri Housing Authority apparently considers the Travis murders to be on the overly recent side of that line, because they've just given McGhaw special dispensation to break her lease. McGhaw can move out at the end of this month.

In the meantime, though, the house has developed a legend overnight. Not only is it a murder house, but it now has ghost stories attached to it. If the example of Slender Man is to be believed, this legend will spread. This house is about to be a hot-ticket item. It's not creepy and gothic like the Villisca house, but it has a certain rustic charm. I'd spend the night there.

The Macabre True Story Of Edward Paisnel, The Beast Of Jersey

The Macabre True Story Of Edward Paisnel, The Beast Of Jersey Throughout the 1960s, Edward Paisnel appeared to be a pillar of his small community on the English Channel Island of Jersey. He was a family man who was devoted to his wife Joan and her young children, and he even played Santa Claus at Christmastime for the young foster children at the group home that Joan founded. But when he wasn't spending time with his family or doing good deeds, he was donning this mask and sneaking into his neighbors' homes at night in order to sexually assault women and children. It would take more than a decade for police to finally catch up with the “Beast of Jersey" as they repeatedly focused on other suspects, blind to the fact that a man like Paisnel could commit such crimes. Officers only caught him when he ran a red light one day in 1971 and they happened to see his mask sitting right there in his car. Edward Paisnel committed more than a dozen rapes and assaults in the Channel Is...

Reasons Why There Is A High Rate Of Divorce

Marriage is not as the way it used to be. Compare today's marriage to when our parents and grandparents got wedded.   D ivorce is now on the rise. People have come to accept it as an almost inevitable part of life. The fear of going through a divorce has been mitigated. Note also that people still marry for the very same reasons that older generations for, but the rate of divorce today is of increase and the following are the reasons among others 1. Men are Sexists and Chauvinistic in nature Most men are sexists and chauvinistic in nature therefore making them selfish and loathe independent women. They make denigrating remarks about women and you don't expect a serious, logical and virtuous woman to remain with such a rètarded being. Women in other hand, are peace loving and cool but their anti-feminism husband keeps antagonising them and they don't have an option but divorce him. There's no ONE reason for the high rates of marriage failure these days. Rather, I believe...

How To Ask For A Date

Asking someone out on a date can be stressful and anxiety-inducing. If you've ever felt overwhelmed or uncertain on how to approach asking someone out, don't worry, you're not alone. The stress of asking someone out combined with fear of rejection prevent many people from taking the first step in a romantic relationship. In America, 64% of people are single. Luckily, there are a couple of simple strategies and techniques that you can use to get a date with someone and overcome the fears that you may have. 1. Make eye contact and smile. Eye contact and smiling are two universal acts of flirting. Looking at someone from across a room lets them know that you notice them. When you smile, you're showing them that you are open to talking to them and that you may be interested in them, or that you like how they look. Don't force a smile or stare at them, however! -You can meet a potential date at school, work, a grocery store, a bar, or in other social situatio...

“A Match Made in Hell”: How Robert Thompson and Jon Venables Became Killers When They Were Just 10 Years Old

"A match made in hell." On February 12, 1993, two 10-year-old boys named Robert Thompson and Jon Venables abducted 2-year-old James Bulger from a shopping center in England. They then blinded him with paint, pummeled him with bricks and stones, and hit him over the head with an iron bar before placing his body onto nearby train tracks — where a train would sever him in two. The youngest convicted killers in modern British history, Thompson and Venables served 8 years for the murder and were both released in 2001. But unfortunately, their story didn't end there. A haunted night at Stanley Hotel's Room 217

A haunted night at Stanley Hotel's Room 217 In March of 2017, I took a history and ghost tour at the Stanley Hotel. While I did not see or interact with any spirits, I felt intense energy in many areas of the hotel. I also caught some images of orbs with my cell phone. Despite the orbs and intense energy, I left the hotel a skeptic. However, I wanted to come back and stay the night so I could experience more ghost activity. Perhaps the activity would be enough to convince me that ghosts truly do exist. The Most Haunted Room At The Stanley On Memorial Day weekend of 2017, my partner and I stayed the night at the Stanley Hotel. Out of all the 420 available rooms, I picked room 217. This is the most well-known room on the property. Back in the 70's, Stephen King stayed the night in this particular room. His night at the hotel had inspired King to write his 1977 horror novel and bestseller called The Shining. Comedian Jim Carrey also visited room 217 while he was in the process of ...

How To Fix A Broken Relationship

Hurt is inevitable in significant relationships. Yet pain and strife do not have to mean a relationship is going to end. Many couples find that working through trouble actually makes their relationship even stronger. What they realize is that all relationship require work, love, and patience to succeed, and this is especially true when trying to mend a broken relationship. 1. Determine if the other person wants to fix the relationship. There is no sense in trying to fix something if you are the only one willing to do the work. If your partner is unapologetic for mistakes, dismissive of your desire to talk, or continues hurtful behavior, it might be time to move on. It takes two people to mend a broken relationship. If you are the only one trying to save things then you will never succeed. 2. Determine why the relationship is in trouble. All relationships go through rough patches at one point or another. As the novelty of your first few months together wears off, problem...

14 Ways To Spot A Gold Digger

A gold digger is a person who is primarily interested in their partner’s money and what it can do for them. You’ll notice that gold diggers often push their partners for expensive gifts, loans, and allowances. They usually feel entitled to the best that life has to offer without working for it. If you are looking for a genuine romantic connection, it’s a good idea to watch out for gold diggers and avoid them.  1. Check out their employment status. Many gold diggers do not have jobs or work in lower-level positions until they attract someone who can serve as their “meal ticket.” When you start dating someone, ask about their job and see what they envision for their future career. If they give you vague answers or laugh it off, then it could be a problem. 2. Be concerned if they reject inexpensive gifts. The thought is what should count when exchanging gifts. If you suspect your partner is a gold digger, you could try to give them a thoughtful, but inexpensive, present....
