The owner of the bible could pull the silk bookmark to shoot while the book was still closed. Francesco Morosini was born on the 26th of February 1619 and died on the 16th of January 1694. He was the Doge of Venice from 1688 to 1694, and a member of the famous noble Venetian Morosini family that produces several Doges and generals. Some of these special concealed weapons were custom-made for Francesco with political assassiation purposes.

Most of them are now on display at the Museo Correr in Venice.
