10 Reasons Why Men Should Quit Watching Po*n

Ira Einhorn was A counterculture Icon of 1960s Philadelphia -- Then He Brutally Murdered His Girlfriend

Ira Einhorn was A counterculture Icon of 1960s Philadelphia -- Then He Brutally Murdered His Girlfriend

Ira Einhorn was a celebrated environmental activist and a radical voice in the anti-establishment movements of the 1960s and 1970s. But his messages of peace and love clearly didn't extend to his girlfriend of five years, Holly Maddux. When Maddux broke up with him in 1977, Einhorn threatened to throw her belongings into the street if she didn't come to pick them up. After Maddux went to retrieve her items, she mysteriously vanished.
Then, about 18 months later, Einhorn's downstairs neighbor complained of a foul-smelling liquid dripping from the ceiling. Police soon found Maddux's badly beaten and partially mummified body in a trunk in Einhorn's closet. Not long after the grisly discovery, Einhorn fled to Europe, where he got married, settled down in a converted windmill in France, and evaded capture for 17 years. When he was eventually extradited and finally stood trial, he claimed that Maddux had actually been murdered by CIA agents who framed him because he knew too much about the agency's paranormal military research.
Ira Einhorn was the darling of Philadelphia’s counterculture in the 1960s and ’70s. A charismatic and flamboyant personality, he preached peace, love and environmentalism, and became a sought-after liaison in helping the city’s civic establishment grasp the upheavals in society.

Then his former girlfriend, Holly Maddux, who had left him, disappeared. Almost a year and a half later, the police found her mummified remains in a steamer trunk in his apartment.

He was charged in 1979 with her murder. But before his pretrial hearing, he fled to Europe, eventually marrying a wealthy Swedish heiress, Annika Flodin, and settling down in a converted windmill in France.

More than two decades later, after lengthy and convoluted extradition negotiations, in which he became a human rights cause célèbre in France, he was sent back to Philadelphia to stand trial. A jury quickly convicted him and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Mr. Einhorn had been in prison for nearly 18 years when he died on April 3 in the State Correctional Institution Laurel Highlands in southwestern Pennsylvania. He was 79.

The Somerset County coroner, Wally Miller, said in a phone interview that Mr. Einhorn died of longstanding cardiac problems, unrelated to the coronavirus pandemic.

His death brought an end to a bizarre melodrama that troubled Philadelphians for decades and drew worldwide attention

“The chapter is finally, for real, closed,” Elizabeth Hall, one of Ms. Maddux’s sisters, told The Philadelphia Inquirer last week.

“I think a lot of people in Philadelphia were waiting to hear” that he had died, she said. “He became part of the city’s consciousness in an ugly way.”

In 1972 he began a five-year relationship with Ms. Maddux, who was from Tyler, Texas, and had graduated from nearby Bryn Mawr College. Her family never liked him, considering him a bully, and in 1977 she left him and moved to New York.

He was furious and demanded that she come back to Philadelphia to retrieve her belongings, saying he would throw them into the street if she didn’t. She came back. And then she vanished. She was 30.

Mr. Einhorn denied any involvement in her disappearance, saying she had gone out to the local co-op to buy some tofu and sprouts and had never returned.

It was a measure of his ability to make important connections that after he was charged with murder, his lawyer was Arlen Specter, the city’s former district attorney who was then in private practice and who went on to become a United States senator.

Mr. Specter managed to get Mr. Einhorn’s bail reduced to $40,000. To be released from custody, Mr. Einhorn had to put up only 10 percent, or $4,000. It was paid by a Canadian socialite, one of several well-off people who supported him financially and who doubted he could have been involved in murder.

Ira Samuel Einhorn was born on May 15, 1940, in Philadelphia and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1961 with a major in English.

A big burly man with a full beard and electric blue eyes, he was an early avatar of the counterculture steeped in consciousness-raising, ecological awareness and illicit psychedelic drugs. He dropped acid as early as 1958 and later started a rescue service for people in the throes of bad trips. He also taught a series of free courses, including “Analogues to the LSD Experience.”

The Village Voice called him “indisputably Philadelphia’s head hippie” and the city’s “number one freak.” He attracted a wide range of friends, from the Yippies Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman to corporate executives and civic do-gooders.

“Ira waxed eloquent about what was happening in the world,” Sam Katz, a former mayoral candidate and Philadelphia entrepreneur, said in a phone interview.

“It was the age of Aquarius and the Vietnam War and the generation gap, and he was articulate and dynamic and very approachable,” Mr. Katz said. Mr. Einhorn became a bridge between the anti-establishment and the establishment, he said, often speaking at civic events.

But his darker side and a monumental ego were emerging, most noticeably during the first Earth Day celebration in 1970, when 20 million people across the country gathered to draw attention to environmental problems.

As two environmental activists later wrote in an op-ed in The Inquirer, Mr. Einhorn had made himself unwelcome at organizational meetings in advance of Earth Day, and then, at the actual event, he “grabbed the microphone and refused to give up the podium for 30 minutes, thinking he would get some free television publicity.”

He later falsely claimed to have been a founder of Earth Day, a title generally accorded to Senator Gaylord Nelson, a Wisconsin Democrat.

Mr. Einhorn was domineering with women and could become violent if he was rejected. The news media reported that at one point he strangled a woman until she was unconscious; at another, he hit a woman over the head with a bottle.

After Ms. Maddux vanished, he carried on as before. He continued to give speeches, and in 1978 spent a semester at the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Frustrated at the lack of progress in finding their daughter, the Maddux family hired a private investigator. By then, neighbors reported a stench coming from Mr. Einhorn’s apartment and a dark liquid leaking into the apartment below.

When the police searched the apartment in 1979, they found Ms. Maddux’s decomposed body in a trunk in a closet. Her skull had been fractured in at least six places by a blunt object.

A murder trial for Mr. Einhorn had been set for 1981 when he fled. The Philadelphia district attorney decided to try him in 1993 anyway, in absentia, a rare proceeding but one that the city felt might bring the case to a close. The jury quickly found him guilty, and the judge sentenced him to life without parole.

The case continued to capture the public’s imagination. Mr. Einhorn had labeled himself “the unicorn,” the translation of his name in German., and he became the subject of a 1988 book by Steven Levy called “The Unicorn’s Secret: A Murder in the Age of Aquarius.”

Investigators, spurred on by Ms. Maddux’s family, continued the search for Mr. Einhorn. In 1997 they found him in a farmhouse in southwest France. As negotiations over his extradition dragged on for four years, NBC produced a mini-series in 1999 called “The Hunt for the Unicorn Killer.” He was finally sent back to Philadelphia in 2001.

As a condition for his extradition, he was granted a second trial, during which he took the stand. He said that the C.I.A. had killed Ms. Maddux and planted her body in his apartment in an attempt to frame him because he knew too much about military research into the paranormal.

He was found guilty and again sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The parting thoughts of those in the courtroom were not kind.

A juror said that Mr. Einhorn had a God complex. The presiding judge called him “an intellectual dilettante” who preyed on people.

The district attorney, Lynne Abraham, said, “Metaphorically speaking, Ira Einhorn and his Virgo moon are toast.”

Marriage is not as the way it used to be. Compare today's marriage to when our parents and grandparents got wedded.   D ivorce is now on the rise. People have come to accept it as an almost inevitable part of life. The fear of going through a divorce has been mitigated. Note also that people still marry for the very same reasons that older generations for, but the rate of divorce today is of increase and the following are the reasons among others 1. Men are Sexists and Chauvinistic in nature Most men are sexists and chauvinistic in nature therefore making them selfish and loathe independent women. They make denigrating remarks about women and you don't expect a serious, logical and virtuous woman to remain with such a rètarded being. Women in other hand, are peace loving and cool but their anti-feminism husband keeps antagonising them and they don't have an option but divorce him. There's no ONE reason for the high rates of marriage failure these days. Rather, I believe...

Here Are The Marriage Advice You Should Never Ignore

This article you are about to read is an divorce from a married man following 16 years of marriage, by Gerald Rogers. Read what he said below; Obviously, I’m not a relationship expert. But there’s something about my divorce being finalized this week that gives me perspective of things I wish I would have done different… After losing a woman that I loved, and a marriage of almost 16 years, here’s the advice I wish I would have. 1. NEVER STOP COURTING So never stop dating. NEVER EVER take that woman for granted. When you asked her to marry you, you promised to be that man that would OWN HER HEART and to fiercely protect it. This is the most important and sacred treasure you will ever be entrusted with. SHE CHOSE YOU. Never forget that, and NEVER GET LAZY in your love. 2. PROTECT YOUR OWN HEART Just as you committed to being the protector of her heart, you must guard your own with the same vigilance. Love yourself fully, love the world openly, but there is a special place ...

Place to touch to make her be in sex mood

From her head all the way to her toes, here are 10 of the top erog enous zones to turn her on: Her Head Have you ever been on the receiving end of a scalp massage and felt those warm fuzzy tingles from head to toe? That’s because the skin on the top of your head is loaded with nerves that are extremely sensitive to the touch. Sti mulating the scalp in the right way releases a flood of feel-good ho rmones like serotonin and oxytocin. It also increases blood flow, not just to her brain (the largest s ex org an, remember?) but all over her body.Next time you and your partner are kissing or cuddling, open your fi ngers wide and run them slowly through her hair, lightly stroking her scalp with your fi ngertips. Start behind her ears, at the base of the head, and circulate to the front, kind of like you’re lathering shampoo into your hair. Scalp massages are both soothing and sensual: They help release tension, and get her in the mood for other sti mulating activities. Her Ears ...

How “Lobster Boy” Grady Stiles Went From Circus Act To Murderer

How “Lobster Boy” Grady Stiles Went From Circus Act To Murderer For more than a century, a peculiar physical condition known as ectrodactyly has afflicted the Stiles family. The rare congenital deformity makes hands look like lobster claws as the middle fingers are either missing or seemingly fused to the thumb and pinky. While many may have viewed this condition as a handicap, for the Stiles family it spelled opportunity. As the family grew and produced more children with unusual hands and feet, they developed a circus: The Lobster Family, which became a carnival staple throughout the early 20th century. But one of their children, Grady Stiles Jr., would give the Stiles family a different, morbid reputation when he became a serial abuser and murderer. Go inside the haunting crimes of "Lobster Boy" by clicking the link in our profile. Discover how "Lobster Boy" Grady Stiles got his "claws" and how he eventually began using them to commit murder. A Very Victorian Two-Penny Hangover

During the Great Depreciation in London, people who couldn’t afford to sleep in a bad could pay twopence for a spot on a bench with a clothesline tied in front of them, so they could sleep while hanging over a rope . The term ‘hangover’ is universally understood to mean the disproportionate suffering that comes after a night of over-indulgence. But where does the term actually come from? One possible explanation is, somewhat strangely, Victorian England. During the Victorian era the practice of paying for a ‘two-penny hangover’ was incredibly popular among the country’s homeless population and the term ‘two penny hangover’ was so commonly used that it made its way into contemporary literature. A two-penny hangover is not the description of a very cheap night out, nor is it the amount it would cost you to get drunk in Victorian England. It is actually somewhere you could go to sleep if you were one of the thousands of homeless and destitute living in the country’s main cities at the tim...

Inside The Extraterrestrial Tale Of The 1955 Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter

Inside The Extraterrestrial Tale Of The 1955 Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter On August 21, 1955, the Kelly-Hopkinsville UFO incident terrified the people of western Kentucky and introduced the world to "little green men." Around 11 p.m. on the night of August 21, 1955, eight people showed up at the Hopkinsville, Kentucky police station in a state of panic. "We need help," one gasped. "We've been fighting them for nearly four hours." They quickly explained that the "them" were aliens — creatures with glowing yellow eyes, silvery skin, and long arms who had swooped in from out of the sky. While it may have sounded outlandish, multiple witnesses soon corroborated the story. To this day, the Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter remains one of the most compelling stories of an alien encounter on record. See the photos and go inside the bizarre encounter and how it inspired both "E.T." and "Gremlin” by clicking the link in our bio. Around 11 PM...

How To Fix A Broken Relationship

Hurt is inevitable in significant relationships. Yet pain and strife do not have to mean a relationship is going to end. Many couples find that working through trouble actually makes their relationship even stronger. What they realize is that all relationship require work, love, and patience to succeed, and this is especially true when trying to mend a broken relationship. 1. Determine if the other person wants to fix the relationship. There is no sense in trying to fix something if you are the only one willing to do the work. If your partner is unapologetic for mistakes, dismissive of your desire to talk, or continues hurtful behavior, it might be time to move on. It takes two people to mend a broken relationship. If you are the only one trying to save things then you will never succeed. 2. Determine why the relationship is in trouble. All relationships go through rough patches at one point or another. As the novelty of your first few months together wears off, problem...

14 Ways To Spot A Gold Digger

A gold digger is a person who is primarily interested in their partner’s money and what it can do for them. You’ll notice that gold diggers often push their partners for expensive gifts, loans, and allowances. They usually feel entitled to the best that life has to offer without working for it. If you are looking for a genuine romantic connection, it’s a good idea to watch out for gold diggers and avoid them.  1. Check out their employment status. Many gold diggers do not have jobs or work in lower-level positions until they attract someone who can serve as their “meal ticket.” When you start dating someone, ask about their job and see what they envision for their future career. If they give you vague answers or laugh it off, then it could be a problem. 2. Be concerned if they reject inexpensive gifts. The thought is what should count when exchanging gifts. If you suspect your partner is a gold digger, you could try to give them a thoughtful, but inexpensive, present....
